Cancer and its top 5 types in India

Cancer is a disastrous disease which causes hundreds and thousands of deaths to many family members every year. Cancer is a generic term for a large group of diseases which may affect any part of the body. Tobacco consumption, alcohol consumption, unhealthy diet, and physical inactivity are some of major cancer risk factors worldwide and are also the 4 shared risk factors for other noncommunicable diseases. Cancer deaths can be reduced if cases are detected and treated early. According to a recent study by World Health Organization it is seen that the risk of developing cancer in males before the age of seventy-five is 9.81 percent and the risk in females is 9.42 percent and the risk of death due to cancer before the age group of seventy-five is 7.34 percent In males and 6.28 percent in females.

However, the top five types of Cancer that men are most affected by-

  • Lip/oral cavity cancer
  • Lung cancer
  • Stomach cancer
  • Colorectal cancer
  • Esophagus cancer

 

 And, the top five Cancer cases which are seen in women-

  • Breast cancer cancer
  • Lip/oral cavity cancer
  • Cervical cancer
  • Lung cancer
  • Gastric cancer

 

The incidence of Cancer  in India-

In accordance with the National Cancer Registry Program of the Indian Council of medical research the death of more 1300 Indians is seen every day due to cancer. In between 2012 and 2014 the mortality ratio due to cancer increased by approximately 6 percent. In around 2012 there were 4, 78,180 deaths out of 29, 34,314 reported cases. According to the population of cancer registry of the Indian Council of medical research among all the states of India the incidence and mortality rates of cancer are highly seen in and around the north-eastern region of the country. Among these, breast cancer is the common cause of cancer seen around here and the stomach cancer is the main cause of death by cancer for the entire population around here, but among these breast cancer and lung cancer kills the most number of men and women around here.

The growth rate of Cancer in India-

The burden of cancer in India has more than just doubled over the time period with the number of deaths increasing due to cancer alone. As per the Indian Council of medical research, India had approximately 14 lakhs of cancer patients in India and the number is expected to rise unexpectedly in the near future. According to the World health organization’s research data and study the have estimated that cancer will take around 9.6 million lives from around the world and India has a worryingly 8.17 percent share in the total number. The WHO also says that India will have around 1.16 million new cancer cases this year and more than 50 percent of these cases are likely to affect the women. Moreover, the rates of breast cancer in India have gone up spikily by 39.1 percent between 1900 and 2016 and are also the leading cancer cause of India. The report has shown that tobacco use is the cause of 14 percent of cancer in an around India. The other equally worrying factors include alcohol, drug use, poor diet, and unsafe sex.
